Rob, Are you saying you can delete the pictures on the phone from the computer? If so I'd really like to know how. I seem to remember that this used to be possible, but at least I am not able to do so any more. Maybe it's some setting, but I actually think Apple is not allowing this. Here is the message I get when I try to delete a picture from my iPhone using Windows 7:
