Actually, the original price of DigitEyes was $29.99, then they reduced the entire package to $19.99 and there are a couple component parts that are $9.99. I always recommend folks go for the full package. I noticed on my 5S running iOS 8.1.2 that it is much faster than it used to be. They do keep working on it and the database of codes is one of the most complete there is.
But, it will never be as fast as a stand alone barcode reader like the ID Mates. But, $19.99 compared to $1,250 or so is worth being a bit slower. There are, apparently, some Bluetooth scanners that will interface with DigitEyes but they are not cheap. They have information on their web site.
