Colin, I found it in settings under mail. I turned it all off, favorites and recents too! It's so easy to get to contacts I don't need to hear that stuff in the app switcher. I cleared out all old missed calls and phone numbers from the previous owner as well. If only I had set the phone back to the factory defaults a month ago...
