Thanks to Alan, Richard and John for their responses on this thread.
Just wanted to say that problem is solved. Not sure why sync/backup didn’t
quite work as expected since I attempted to follow directions as presented. I
ultimately deleted the apps from my Itunes library and downloaded individually.
While this was a bit time-consuming, the advantage was that I had to think
about which ones I actually wanted/needed on the phone since I only have 16gb
vs. 64gb on my Ipod with room to spare on latter, and since I took the time to
download by category they pretty much ended up grouped as I want them so I
didn’t have to mess with folders or moving things around. Anyway, today made
first call from the keypad and am setting up my contacts. Eventually I hope to
actually know what I’m doing, smile.

Susan,

I may not be the best one to address this topic but I'll say what I believe is
right. You'll get the most restored from an iTunes encrypted backup. Also, make
sure you sync your iPod with your computer in iTunes so the apps get copied to
your computer and will be included in the restored backup. I made the mistake
with a friend thinking that apps on her phone would be automatically included
in an iTunes encrypted backup but since the apps were downloaded on the phone
which was never synced to iTunes, the apps were not restored. You can always
re-download them from the iTunes Store but if you're using a preferred older
version, you'll be out of luck because you'll get the current version from the
iTunes Store.

Good luck.

Subject: confused about options for setting up phone

Hi listers,

Earlier in the week I wrote concerning a lost passcode. Today I went to Apple’s
genius bar and had the phone reset but was advised that I had to complete the
process of backing up from my own computer. Am I correct to think that a
restore from Itunes backup will allow me to migrate my purchased apps from my
Ipod? When I connect to Itunes the Iphone does not appear to be recognized and
nothing seems to happen. Is there something I’m missing? Any help is very much
appreciated.
