Here's a link to an AppleVis podcast by Scott Davert titled A walk-through
of Voice Dream - Text to Speech:

Be aware that this podcast is a little dated since it came out on 19
February, 2013 and Winston Chen, the Voice Dream Reader developer, is very
good at updating this app. I have not listened to this podcast so I don't
know how much it deals with Voice Dream and Bookshare.

To add Bookshare books to your iDevice in Voice Dream Reader:

1. Start the app.
2. The selections I'm explaining assume you've already signed into your
Bookshare account with Voice Dream so if that is not the case, what you see
might be different.
3. There is a bottom line menu on the Voice Dream All Items screen and
the first button in this menu is Add which you should execute.
4. Several choices of services from which to add books should appear
and on my iPhone, Bookshare is next to last just before Cancel.
5. The screen that opens to a signed in Bookshare account will contain
a search box at the very top followed by browse categories such as Popular,
Latest, etc. from which you can browse Bookshare titles you might want to
download.
6. I always search for my books and after performing the search, I'm
presented with a list of hits. If the title you want is clear from what's
presented, a download button appears in the search list and you can execute
it to start the download. If you need more info about the presented titles,
double tap on their names and a screen will open giving you more details on
the selected title.
7. After you download the desired title, tap the Bookshare back button
which is at the top left of the screen.
8. Tap the Done button in the top right of the screen which you've gone
back to.
9. The Bookshare book you just downloaded should be the first title
listed in your Voice Dream All Items screen.
10. Double tap on the book to begin reading within Voice Dream.

Voice Dream has an easy-to-use interface with all the needed controls to set
the desired reading speed and to set the navigation unit you'd like to
navigate by (I've got mine set to 15 seconds). Choosing the voice you want
and the volume, pitch, and speed at which it reads is very easy to do. You
should swipe around the Voice Dream book reading screen to see what all is
available and get familiar with the controls.

I'm using the current version 3.3.1 of Voice Dream and even though I don't
think I've downloaded every update that's been release since I purchased the
app in March of 2013, I still have 15 versions in my computer's Mobile
Applications backup folder. Winston is very good about updating this app and
making it accessible as well as providing a great feature set. It is no
wonder that voice Dream Reader just received the AppleVis Golden Apple award
for best iOS app of 2014.

Good luck.

To add a little to this, if the book comes directly from the publisher, as I
understand it, there is no scanning involved. They donate the electronic
copy of the book, so unless there are mistakes in the printed version, you
will not find any in the "publisher quality" books on Bookshare.

I personally have found a lot of books that I prefer reading with Voice
Dream than listening to the human read audio voice. It is great being able
to highlight passages and then export those highlights to a text file so I
have the ability to discuss the book with others and have notes taken
directly from the book.

Voice Dream is easily my favorite and most used app.

Hi Terry, Anyone with a print disability is eligible to access the
books on BookShare. It is a wonderful service. Many of the books are
donated by publishers and the scans are of the highest quality, and an
advantage of accessing books via BookShare is that often one can
retrieve a book on or near its first date of publication. It's such a
terrific service. We are lucky to have it available to us!

Hi. I have a question regarding Book Share. Who reads the books that are

put up on Bookshare? I've got a friend who would like to know. Thanks.
