Ah, then I guess that is the cause of the problem. I don't see any
'Ps' in the output of that command. Which is strange, for I showed the
output of glxinfo in the Xorg IRC channel and been told that the
card/driver supports pbuffers. Definitely I have 3D acceleration up
and running.

Telling vglrun which display to attach to doesn't make much of a
difference, on display :0 it gives me the warnings and the error
messages below. On display :1 (the one the VNC server is using) it
complains (understandably now that I think about it) that 'GLX is
missing'.
