I had to dig out the ATI card in the process of solving a problem for
another customer, and I'm sad to report that the readback performance on
the V5700 is not good.  About 100 Mpixels/sec was the best I could get,
and using PBO's (which generally make things faster on nVidia hardware)
dropped performance by about 1/3.

I'm a little confused about driver revisions.  The only one it presented
to me was 8.734 when I went to download the latest & greatest for the V5700.
