You can find the CPU serial number and model type in PFXPG, at PFXCPUID.
If you are running on a multiprocessor you may have to chase the PFXNXTPF
chain and change it the prefix page for each processor.

But... that only affects the CPUID returned by the STIDP assembler
instruction. Diagnose 218 returns the real machine CPUID and model
number. Newer ISV software does not rely on the easily zapable PFXCPUID
(returned by STIDP). Instead they rely on Diagnose 218.

A better way is to contact your software vendors and demand a product
password good on any CPU. Some will relent when pressed hard enough. If
they don't relent, there are still other ways to deal with the issue
technically (and provide a good technical challenge).

Re: CPUTYPE 2nd Level

You wouldn't happen to know where in the VM control block that is ?

I have some VSE systems running under the 2nd level system and I would
like them to act exactly as during a disaster recovery (to make sure my
new license keys work).

Thanks

Mike

The canonical answer is no, you cannot change the CPUtype for a guest
system.

The real answer is that for many things, you can get away with ZAPping
the
CPU type in the virtual machine's VM control block, provided you also
zap
the "FF" that tells the guest that you're running it under VM.

Your mileage may vary! I make no warranties, explicit or implied, as to
whether this will cause catastrophic problems with your running guest.

Greetings,

I will be doing a disaster recovery test mid November. I have been
informed
that the machine I will be using is a IBM-2064-1C6 with a serial number
of
02-00XXXXX

Trying to simulate the test now on a 2nd level zVM system. I am
presently
running on a 9672. I have changed the OPTION statement for this virtual
machine adding 'CPUID 0XXXXX' to its directory entry.
Will be logging off this machine and re-logging on presently.

Since I can't change the cputype on my current system what would be the
response from the Q CPUID when I actually use this new machine ? Would
it
be 'FF0XXXXX20640000' ?
Is there anyway I can have the 2nd level zVm system return a different
cputype when one either issues the 'Q CPUID' command or uses the DIAG
218
instruction.

Thanks
