The real answer is that for many things, you can get away with ZAPping the CPU type in the virtual machine's VM control block, provided you also zap the "FF" that tells the guest that you're running it under VM. I have been informed that the machine I will be using is a IBM-2064-1C6 with a serial number of 02-00XXXXX Trying to simulate the test now on a 2nd level zVM system. I am presently running on a 9672. I have changed the OPTION statement for this virtual machine adding 'CPUID 0XXXXX' to its directory entry. Will be logging off this machine and re-logging on presently. Since I can't change the cputype on my current system what would be the response from the Q CPUID when I actually use this new machine ? Would it be 'FF0XXXXX20640000' ? Is there anyway I can have the 2nd level zVm system return a different cputype when one either issues the 'Q CPUID' command or uses the DIAG 218 instruction.
