Interesting. Fujitsu saying that these machines will compete with mainframes running Linux is similar to saying my 400mhz Pentium machine in my basement can compete with a mainframe too. Can it run multiple Linux instances? Yep. Can it do it well and is it easily managed, well tuned, resource sharing friendly, dynamically expandable, etc...? Nope. Can you get 50 Linux servers on it? Probably, but it would be as comfortable as putting 50 people in a Volkswagen and then trying to drive it.
Maybe Intel needs to change their processor stickers to say "Intel Inside - Competes with Mainframes". _______________________________________ James Vincent Systems Engineering Consultant Nationwide Services Co., Technology Infrastructure Engineering Mainframe, z/VM and z/Linux Support One Nationwide Plaza 3-25-02 Columbus OH 43215-2220 U.S.A Voice: (614) 249-5547 Fax: (614) 677-7681 mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] VM/ESA and z/VM Discussions <[email protected]> wrote on 11/07/2005 12:54:36 PM: > Sent by: VM/ESA and z/VM Discussions <[email protected]> > > [email protected] > > On 11/7/05, Dave Jones <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > A bit OT, but I thought that this might be of interest to at least some > > of the list readers... > > http://www.forbes.com/business/feeds/afx/2005/11/03/afx2318132.html > > > > I wonder how these new systems will compare with the zSeries?
