Corrupted minidisk directory structure, or a bad block somewhere in the middle of the file will cause something like this to happen. Using MW access between two CMS users on the same minidisk will generate this behavior reliably. Try creating fresh minidisks and copying the files over to the new disks. If it's a corrupted directory, it'll blow up during the copy. If it's a bad block, it'll blow up during the copy of the affected file. You also might look around for a copy of MDCHECK -- MDCHECK was a utility that did integrity checking of minidisks. I think it was on the VM Workshop tapes, or someone else on the list might still have a copy or know where to get one. -- db
