Al,

We used the "Big-Bang" method going from 2 Sharks to 1 DS8100. We migrated 235 z/VM volumes (approx 60 mod 3's and the rest mod 9's) using FDRPAS running on a z/OS LPAR. This was over 2 FICON channels transfering the data about 10 miles and took 3 1/2 hours. The bad part to this was VM needed to be completely down wince FDRPAS was running on a different LPAR. If your business can withstand the system being down it is definitely the way to go. Volume to volume... easy... no problems..

Subject: DASD migration

We are doing a DASD migration from HDS to Shark.

I don't have the numbers on how many DASD I have to copy but is there a
product out there that would let me do this migration quickly? I was
thinking of IPLing a standalone VM and do DDRs on all the DASD but that
alone could also take a long time. Has anyone ever done a DASD migration
and what kind of tools did you use?

TIA,
Al
