4 or 5 years ago, in a different job life, we moved from some kind of IBM
dasd to, I think, HDS. Sorry that I'm not more specific, but at that time,
I was totally out of the hardware loop. The dasd to which we moved had
control unit software that, as long as we were hooked up to both the "from"
and "to" dasd, the control unit would do the migration. I don't remember
the mechanics of how we did the address switch, but I think that the
control unit made that transparent as well. The entire operation was done
while the system was in use. It was the easiest dasd move I've ever done
and it worked flawlessly. If it was HDS, you might see if they would be so
good as to do the move for you even if it is off their equipment. I
suppose, tho, that that would be expecting way too much.

We are doing a DASD migration from HDS to Shark.
I don't have the numbers on how many DASD I have to copy but is there a
product out there that would let me do this migration quickly? I was
thinking of IPLing a standalone VM and do DDRs on all the DASD but that
alone could also take a long time. Has anyone ever done a DASD migration
and what kind of tools did you use?
