No need to keep the tapes around: simply use DCSSBKUP to save a copy of 
the CMSVSAM and CMSAMS saved segments.  If -and I say *if*- you go to 
another VM and use the spool of that other VM, use DCSSRSAV to restore 
both saved segments.

And, obviously, you can keep the minidisks/SFS directories on which you 
installed VSAM, these minidisks can without any trouble be transported to 
whatever VM you want.  Then you can even resave those segments at another 
address.
