there used to a joke that os2 was the os360/mft system people had
moved to boca and were trying to re-invent mft ... first as rps on
series/1 and then os2 on ibm/pc.

note that we ran into lots of trouble when we first came up with
3-tier architecture and were out pitching it to customer execs.  this
was back in the days of saa ... which could be construed as attempting
to put the client/server genii back into the bottle.  somewhat related
