CONNECT:Direct works great. On VM it certainly goes to and from an SFS directory. We have been doing that for years. It also interfaces with your ESM.
VSAM is still supported by IBM. I forget the end-of-marketting date. RSCS and BDT is also an option but RSCS only goes to SPOOL.
