Dennis, You sure about that? I've peeked at the "z/VM Guide for Automated Installation and Service version 5 release 2" (GC24-6099-02) and there is no indication of that (but for new DVD support it sounds reasonable). One would expect such a requirement would be clearly defined, not implied.
BTW, the full manual (always a lot more reliable than the double-sided Summary sheet) does not indicate that 5.1 is required. Steve, when in doubt refer to the full manual (helps to put you to sleep at night, too!) :-) Certainly though, a 64-bit first-level system is absolutely required. Maybe that was the implication made by the Summary? Respectfully, Mike Walter Hewitt Associates The opinions expressed herein are mine alone, not my employer's. Those programs weren't there until z/VM 5.1.0. If you can get a copy of MAINT 2CC from a 5.1.0 or 5.2.0 system, it might work. I don't know if IBM had to change anything in CP or TCP/IP to support second-level DVD installs. I just received zVM 5.2 on DVD. I'm looking over the summary sheet for a zVM 5.2 DVD installation and it looks like I've got a problem. I will be installing this 2nd level and according to the summary sheet my first level machine must zVM 5.1.0 or higher. Is this for real? Why can't I do a 2nd level install on zVM 4.3? And I also received a zVM Stacked Recommended Service Upgrade 5101 dvd. There is also a zVM Stacked Recommended Service Upgrade 5201 dvd Why was the 5101 shipped?
