Why do you have to pay an annual fee? Welcome to capitalism! You have to negotiate the fee with the bank that issues the card. Each sets its own fees. Become a better negotiator.
I was grousing about the effects of HR "efficiency", and tugging on your chain a little bit :) The latter is more fun than the former. It is also accomplishes more. -----Original Message----- From: VM/ESA and z/VM Discussions [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mike Walter Sent: Friday, January 06, 2006 12:26 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: OT: Be nice to your favorite IBMer... I support the two z/VM systems here. Period. I don't write business apps. Do you? Why do I have to pay an annual free for my United Airlines VISA card, eh? Do you support that? Why can't you change the code so that mine is free and provides 5 miles for every dollar I change on it? Well, I'm sure you get the idea. And I suspect that you were just grousing in general. :-) BTW, our own benefits have been cut, too. The latest and most obvious example is the change from a free cafeteria(yes, free!) to a subsidized cafeteria which began Jan 1, 2006. Yes, it was a GREAT benefit that we all very much enjoyed for many years. But there are other benefits that have been reduced or eliminated here (as well higher "cost sharing", such as medical costs) just like almost every other business. It's still a great place to work, just not quite as great as it was. Mike Walter Hewitt Associates The opinions expressed herein are mine alone, not my employer's. Mike, Lately it seems that success of HR is defined by how well they strip benefits from the employee. And you are involved in, or at least support, that? -----Original Message----- From: VM/ESA and z/VM Discussions [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Mike Walter Sent: Friday, January 06, 2006 11:30 AM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: OT: Be nice to your favorite IBMer... Marcy, You want to know about pensions? Oh, thank you, thank you for asking!! No one seems to care any more. :-( For the right price we have plenty of paid consultants here would be more than happy to "consult" with you, providing "re-enlightenment"! :-) Pensions (aka: "Defined Benefit" programs) used to be a huge part of our business. Now we do just about everything else related to Human Resources, in addition to pensions. Mike Walter Hewitt Associates The opinions expressed herein are mine alone, not my employer's.
