Charles,

Thanks for wraping (er, was warping in my dyslexic hand) up all those
patches for us.

I'm for including Chuck Lane's subprocess overhaul.

It will probably only affect a small number of the total users, aside from
the testing scenarios, which will of course execrise it beyond anything else
we could come up with :-).

It's worth the shot, my 2 cents.

Subject: New test kit

OK, I finally got a chance to catch up on the last several days' patches,
and I've got a new test kit based on RC1 up for ftp here as
    ftp://perl.newman.upenn.edu/perl5/vmsperl_rc1_1.tgz

It covers all of the recent configure/build changes (including Peter
Prymmer's
latest patch so everyone can have at it), additions and fixes to File::Spec,
Charles Lane's fix for PPFs (with a small speed tweak; please test on AXPen)
and his vmsish hushed extension.

Please bang on it and let us know if it works, and what you think of
the experimental bits (especially if you feel something shouldn't appear
in 5.6.0). Conversely, I haven't folded in the new subprocess mbx stuff
from Charles Lane, since I wasn't sure it'd get a chance to be tested
thoroughly, but please holler if you feel it's important to include it.

Enjoy!

Regards,
