Who's we ;-)? I don't think there's any argument against it in
principle, but I'm unsure about its proper place in the to-do list.
Wouldn't getting PerlIO working be a bit more important?

My laziness has led me to try to make it easier to rebuild the world,
thus my recent build-and-install kit. That approach has its
drawbacks, though, so it would definitely be nice to have binary
compatibility if it can be done what with symbol names changing out
from under us.
