BTW, I've been looking at Hoff's shareable image cookbook at
<http://www.openvms.compaq.com/wizard/swdev/ovms-shexe-cook.html>
and it doesn't look like globaldef's are strictly needed to make
symbols visible outside of perlshr.exe, but if you use extern's you
wind up with a separate psect for each symbol.
