-d or -D ? Be sure to quote them so you know for sure what you're getting: -"d" or
-"D".

Haven't done much with these modules. I can't think of a way DECnet
would be causing trouble for these TCP-based protocols though. Since
you say it works under VMS 6.2 but not under 6.1 I would suspect your
UCX version though you don't give that explicitly. Please check for
ECOs to whatever version of UCX you are using. Other than that it's
a matter of breaking it down to what Perl is doing on the socket
level at the point of the failure and working up a small reproducer.
