A Debug build and test of Perl 5.8.4 RC1 on OpenVMS VAX 7.3 has produced the following information:
PYTHON> dir [...]*.*;/size/grand
Grand total of 452 directories, 5179 files, 604207 blocks.
The bulk of the original message apparently got truncated by Mozilla. Apparently when it runs out of resources, things slowly stop working.
I had thought I had sent the rest of it again, but now can not find the original message at all.
"Failed 225 test scripts out of 625, 64.00% ok"
I am starting to look at the failures.
The first test to fail is switchpx.t.
This is testing the -P and -x flags. The Perl documentation, states that the -P switch uses the C preprocessor, and is a portability problem.
The -x finds a perl script in a file and runs it.
This is probably something different between the DEC C compiler for VAX and for Alpha.
