I would like to install TightVNC 1.2.6 on my Redhat 7.3
box, but I don't want to run the installer as root and
get it hooked into /etc/rc.d/.. etc.

I just want it installed in my home directory or in /bin
or /usr/bin so I can start the server or viewer manually.

How do I do that?

I downloaded vnc-server-3.3.3r2+tight1.2.6-1.i386.rpm
but I think I need to be root to run rpm, and I probably
won't get a choice about where the installation goes.

If I install the rpm package, will it hook up the
vnc-server into /etc/rc.d as a service that is started
at boot time (I don't want that)?

I also downloaded Redhat-Linux-247-vnc.tar and unpacked it.
But the installer 'install_vnc.sh' wants me to be root.

Help will be appreciated.

Thanks

Freddy
