Hi my name is Bill and I have just starting using VNC on a Windows platform.
My first attempt across a TCPIP network worked beautifully. All 95, 98 and ME
This time I am trying to set it up for a friend (Tiny) who wants to work from
home.
The Host (Work)
Windows XP (I am pretty sure it Pro!)
on the Host;
I have installed WinVNC 3.3.3r9 with default parameters. Apart from Password
I have installed "Default registry settings".
I have created a "Incoming connection" via the Microsoft XP network wizard.
I have allowed access to 2 Users on this connection.
I have disabled "auto receive" from WinFAX Pro
I have removed "Fast user switching" as per FAQ doco at
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/faq.html
I start WinVNC (App Mode) and the IP displayed is "127.0.0.1"
The Client (Home)
Windows 98SE
on the Client;
I have installed WinVNC 3.3.3r9 with default parameters.
I have installed "Default registry settings".
I have set up a Dialup connection to Tiny's work number. Including Username
and password as I set up on the host.
After using a dialup connection from Tiny's home to his Work, I connect
without any problems. Username and Password Verified.....blah blah blah.
I start VNC Viewer from home and type in 127.0.0.1 and 127.0.0.1:0 and
127.0.0.1:1 and 127.0.0.1:2......etc
(No DNS is not running on the Host machine)
and receive "Failed to connect to server" each time.
Can someone help?
I have and will still continue to work my way through the Lists and Archives
which have shown me that many others have the same setup without this problem.
I am a Novice with VNC Please excuse any obvious ignorance on my part. And
many thanks if you can solve it for me.
Ta
Silly Billy :-)
