We have a similar issue with IP Addresses and VNC, but ours relates to the users not being able to grasp that they have to point at the VNC icon or how to run WinIPConfig.

We developed a very simple utility for our Intranet and deployed a URL link to all of the desktops. It opens a web page that displays a good number of relevant bits of info about the PC - IP, Browser & Version, some other bits & pieces as well. If this is something you're interested in looking at I can email you the files directly.

Subject:	Utility to show IP address prior to login

We have about 1200 pc's here and are running RealVnc to remotely control
those pc's. We have been using static IP addresses but are going to
switch to DHCP in the next month. Are there any utilities that will
display a workstations IP address prior to login? Or does anyone have a
simple method of determining a workstations ip address for our Help Desk
to assist a user having difficulty logging in?
