Hey there, first off, I beg forgiveness if this has been addressed and
answered previously, but the sheer size of the archive contents scared me off
a full, in-depth search.

We recently wiped our PC at work, and installed Win2k-pro. Our TechAdmin
also set up WinVNC to allow me to work from home on off-days. This was great!
It worked a treat!

Then, suddenly, it became impossible to connect in from home. It wasn't
even asking for a password, simply saying "unable to connect to a server".

I immediately thought "It must be a prob with my home PC" so I tested by
installing WinVNC on my home fileserver, linked in fine, operated the machine
fine, log out fine - repeated daily for over 2 weeks without a hitch. Then
asked a mate to install the server and viewer and we took control of each
other's PCs to test those possibilities, all checked out fine again.

Process of elimination, it was an issue with the work PC. Opened all
firewalls, still no connect. Unlocked all ports, still no connect. I am
getting quite strung out by this, as it has become an important part of our
future expansion plans to have a reasonably consistant connection to the work
server.

    To avoid any simple questions:

Yes, I am the branch manager, I have authorisation to to this.

Yes, I have a medium technical skill level, so it's not something TOO
basic.

Yes, I have confirmed I still have the correct IP address, Display values,
etc.

No, it won't accept log-in viz the Java/Web Viewer either.

Yes, we can PING the machine successfully.

Yes, we run firewalls, but it worked fine through them to start with, and
neither firewall has advanced adaptive capabilities, so they haven't changed.

Yes, I am also the NetAdmin, so I haven't locked any ports I shouldn't
have.

Yes, if required, and after some negotiation, I would be willing to allow
a helpful person to log in a test their theories. I have set up MSN Messenger
on the work PC so we can 'talk' in realtime to resolve the issue.

Yes, I am DESPERATE for help. So desperate in fact that if you reply,
could you please send a CC reply direct this my email, so I don't have to
spend time wading through everyone else's issues to get to a possible
solution. I don't want to sound petty or selfish, it is simply that while
waiting for any (much appreciated) help, I will need to dedicate any spare
time to finding alternative apps to do the job, in case this experiment has
failed totally.

Cheers to one and all, and I thank you in anticipation of some kind soul
helping me out here.
