Not a stupid question! It is kinda tricky. You have to map your ADSL Modem to the LAN address AND port number - thus
Map WAN to 10.10.10.100 port 580n where n is the number of your VNC Screen Each modem has different ways to program it so I cant give an exact example - but the important things is to ensure that you have port 580n mapped from the outside world to the inside world Also ensure that you address the LAN system with a WAN IP address - do not forget that 10.10.10.100 is NOT visible to the outside world. One way to do this is to get a dynamic IP address (look at http://www.no-ip.com) you then connect to http://dynamicIP.no-ip.com:580n for Web interface or dynamicIP.no-ip.com:n the web interface is often more efficient I have noticed Good luck Ceri Hankey ---- Original Message ----- From: "Frank Grigaliunas" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Tuesday, November 04, 2003 9:57 PM Subject: Beginner's stupid question > Remember, there are no stupid questions; only stupid people. > > I can run VNC fine across the local network, but I can't get in from the > outside. > > I'm using a MSN DSL modem and a Linksys router. > > When I attempt to get in from outside, I get the information from the modem. > When I mouse over the icon in the system tray from the server computer, it > shows 10.10.10.100--the local DHCP address for this computer. > > I've tried using port forwarding and DMZ on the router, but I must not be > doing it right.
