Do you mean the host machine has only the DSL modem and must wait until login to complete the connect? You want to be able to have the PC be turned on and then be ready, without having any login, correct?
You can get a DSL Firewall/Router which can keep the connection up and provide the benefits of a firewall, NAT and port forwarding. The router does the PPPoE login, so the connection should be ready all the time. As long as you have static IPs on the LAN and the correct port forwarding, you can then access the machine anytime its on. I suggest getting the router for all my clients, even with a single PC. They are inexpensive and provide additional security, and requires nothing of the host system other than TCP/IP. Do not forget to use tell Windows that your Internet is now provided by a LAN, not dialup. Use the AuthHosts option to offer some sanity to who can connect, if you have a static IP.
