Niklas, When you say "the lowest resolution and colours", do you really mean that the resolution has changed after a reboot, or just that the colours seem to have?
VNC 4 auto-detects the available network bandwidth and requests a lower colour depth if it is slow - you can control that through the VNC Viewer Options... panel.
