Rex, Please do not spread libellous rumours regarding the RealVNC Ltd. and the GPL!
The full source code to VNC 4 is available for download from http://www.realvnc.com/download.html, so I'm not sure how you've missed it. The source is provided as a tarball rather than a source RPM - this is entirely consistent with the requirements of the GPL, which does not stipulate the archive method that must be used to distribute the source to the binaries. Neither of the problems you describe have anything to do with the RPM, but with the build process for the vnc.so module for X. The most likely cause of the module not being built for XFree86 is that XFree86 doesn't support dynamic module loading on the platform in question. Another possibility is that you haven't applied the xc.patch file to your expanded XFree86 tree. Which platform are you trying to build on?
