Hi James,
The error wasn't specified except for the fact that it simply
wouldn't connect... That's what the error message said. "Cannot
connect to 192.168.1.150". I tried digging around for some logs of
some sort but no luck.
Since I can connect to my PC here at home with V4.1.1 of the Personal
Edition, I decided to see if I could download that version. I ended
up finding a way to download v4.1.2 and viola!!!, it worked.
So, I'm running v4.1.2 on both PC's at work (the rest of the shop is
Mac) and I'm happy as a clam. I suspect some sort of communication
error with the encryption features of the newer versions of VNC
Server and ARD 3.0 even though I had had the encryption features set
to "Prefer Off".

Hi Jason,
Apple Remote Desktop isn't VNC-compatible, but current VNC
Enterprise &
Personal Edition releases have some workarounds for incompatible
VNC-based
software which may allow things to work. However, you haven't
actually
specified what the error is that you're seeing, so it's rather
difficult to
suggest what might be going wrong!

Subject: ARD 3.0/VNC 4.2.5 problems
Hi list,
I have two PC's... one Win XP, one Win 2K where I've installed VNC
Server Personal Edition 4.2.5. For now, I'm just trying to
connect to
them on my internal network, but having some problems.
Configs:
Win XP - Fast-user switching is not enabled (only one user account),
Remote Admin disabled, Win XP firewall disabled. Static IP address
VNC - No authentication, no encryption (Prefer off), everything else
left as default
Win 2K - No config changes from default setup. Static IP address.
VNC- Same as above
Network Environment:
All internal clients connected to switch. Apple Xserve acting as
gateway. Firewall enabled - internal address block (192.168-net)
allows all traffic (we're a small shop). All computers are "ping-
happy" from one another.
Both PC's can see each other and connect, one to the other using VNC
Viewer.
PowerBook G4 running Apple Remote Desktop 3.0 can see both PC's and
return a "VNC On" status but cannot connect.
Same PowerBook G4 CAN connect to my Win 2K box at home running VNC
Server Personal Edition 4.1.1
Any ideas why this wouldn't be working?
