I love VNC, don't get me wrong. However for this application, may I
recommend LOGMEIN (http://www.logmein.com). You can get a free
subscription which allows you to download a client to the remote PC.
Once installed, the client actually is configured for your account and
"reports" in to the logmein website where only you have access to it.
It defeats firewalls by initiating the connection, rather than you
having to initiate it. This is provided there is no egress filtering at
the University.

Check it out, you'll be pleasantly surprised I'm sure.

Kind Regards,

JMB
