I think you misunderstood. The private mail is meant to keep the investigation
out of the list. Whenever any new knowledge surfaces, they should, of course,
be posted to the list as well as the final solution. The private mails need
not be one-on-one. They should be addressed to all who are showing an interest
in solving the problem.

Just a suggestion - answering only the person who raised the question keeps
others who may well have the same problem now or in the near future from
seeing the answer. That ends up making more work for the more knowledgeable
and helpful members of the list. I hope you won't choose the private
conversations approach for such issues...
