A review of old mail didn't really turn up anything negative about Intel
NICs (the opposite, in fact). However, it did make it pretty clear that
poor NIC drivers seem to have a habit of causing the kind of symtom that I
am seeing.
Odd that the NICs seem to work fine for all other applications; still, life
with computers is pretty odd in general.
I'll see if I can find the time tomorrow to load VNC on to a different
client and see what happens when I connect to the same server.
