Obviously I'm out of my depth, here. ;) I imagine they need 20 keV to approach the palladium nucleus close enough to see the effect that Ron is describing. So perhaps the 20 keV is what is supposed to get them close enough to tunnel, for example, if that is something that is relied upon. Eric
