It's my personal opinion that the "establishment", whoever one wants to call them, has no interest in funding John's work - with John appointed as the principal investigator. I think they wanted John completely out of the loop. The farther removed, ignored, and/or discredited the better. I suspect government research facilities preferred to initially gather as much information from John's haphazard experiments as they could. This wasn't an easy task since John never documented his highly unusual experiments, and as such, could never repeat them on demand with any degree of confidence.
