Much of their profit has been made on the financing arm. If you really think that "millions" want one of these toys, then successful niche builders like the Japanese should be making them. If they aren't, then they likely have concluded it's a bad deal. Maybe Subaru will come out with a lithium based one in 2010, but we'll see. It's the battery - that's the key. Everything else is in place for an explosion of electric vehicles to emerge IF you can find a Really Good Battery. In summary, there are too many sinister explanations for things that are easily explained by pedestrian economics. Alternative energy has never gotten mainstream because businesses know that their plans could collapse anytime the Saudis ( the swing producers) OPEN UP A VALVE and pump $20 a barrel oil. ..............but that may soon change ( Thank God)
