I was getting tired of paying the high cost of cable TV a few years ago. I
bought a long UHF yagi antenna. I could pick up Pittsburgh now and then.
Probably from the reflection off of airplanes at the Pittsburgh Airport. Then
Pittsburgh started coming in better. I went outside and found that the wind
had just blown my yagi down. It was nose down in the ground. Damn, I thought,
just when I was getting something and this happened.
Now I know what happened. Light has no specified length in the vertical
direction and length of one wavelength in the horizontal direction. That's why
wave guides are rectangular the vertical length of the wave does not matter.
The vertical length of the guide can be less than one wavelength. The
opposite is also true the vertical length can be more than one wavelength.
Long enough to be bent down by changes in atmospheric pressure.
I want to make a proxy wave antenna. I would be tall instead of long. Maybe I
could capture the portion of the energy that was bent down by this effect.
