This prediction alone should make you realize there is something fishy in your 
hypothesis.

I'll try one last thing to help you out of this heresy, imagine that the brake 
consists in sliding a two prong fork over one of the spokes, with the prongs 
infinitely close to the spoke but _NOT touching it_. With the brake as 
specified, would you still expect a tension to change somewhere in the wheel 
when you slide the fork in and out?
