I find it amazing
the number of times I start out writing a post only to discover it is
completely wrong.
I think it is often the act of writing, of
struggling for clarity of expression and for clear justification
based on known principles, that leads to discovery.

Easily overlooked, yet a most profound realization, is the subtle impact the
internet is having on science. Such discussion groups as Vortex represent an
amazing new component in science teaching and thought.
Consider that we must compose our thoughts prior to typing and even have the
chance to eat some before actually posting <grin>.
Verbal conversations are so often lost in the wind, but written posts
remain forever. Some written posts enchance a thought, some rebuke, some
challenge, some detract. Even questioning a thought has the potential to
unleash a mental process train that permits one to examine one's own
premise.
Never before in history has this learning, teaching tool been available.
Have a few engineering science undergrads at local universities that I pass
some Vortex posts onto.. they use the internet and accept the tool as a
standard.. but.. over at the Dime Box elementary school where we used slate
boards and chalk for paper.. this internet science stuff is something.
