I may stand corrected, but has it not been shown that all people (animals included, which we are) want to receive praise and reward?

Yes, but I meant excessive or unusual submissiveness. Some people can easily be hypnotized. And some people are unusually submissive, or conformist. I have read the hypothesis that these two personality traits are related, but I doubt it. I do not know much about this, although I did read books about it many years ago.
