If the black hole itself is also rotating such that the direction of the polar beams in space changes continually (like a huge water sprinkler), and at such a frequency that the solar system gets "clipped" by one beam or the other every second orbit, then the regularity is explained. The only difference is that rather than being hit by a meteor(ite), we pass through the particle beam, which would heat the atmosphere considerably, but cause no shock effects on the ground. Regards,
