I've lost my sound again on this system
If you are running on a Mac and the sound loss is a software problem
relating to video playback then running any track from Garage Band may
restore your sound for the videos.
Say what?? Howzatt??
Cranking the volume can "fix" a bad connection in a speaker (if the
power amp can put out enough volts), at least for a while, but how can
playing Garage Band fix a software issue?
But no, I'm running on a Linux system, using VNC to run several virtual
desktops, and VMware to run two virtual Windows systems. (Same physical
system is used by all family members so we need to "fold" it to avoid
conflict.)
The virtual desktops and the VMware instances all fight over the sound
card and sometimes everybody loses, and then I need to reboot to (maybe)
get it all back together, but starting up all the pieces is a pain in
the neck so I tend to put it off and live with the silence.
Alternatively I could bestir myself and go listen to the videos on the
"real" Win2K system my wife generally uses but I'm lazy (and that
system's been having its own problems with videos lately anyway so
there's no guaranteed joy there either).
