The idea of evolution was around before Charles Darwin was born. Basically it consists of the belief that plants and animals have changed markedly over time according to natural laws or processes.
This dynamic view contrasted with the then prevailing static view that plants and animal have remained essentially unchanged since creation. Darwin theorized evolution is driven by random variation (mutation) and natural (environmental )selection. This explanation of evolution is known as Darwinian evolution. Before Darwin, Lamarck theorized evolution is driven by the inheritance of acquired of characteristics. This is known as Lamarckian evolution. Today the nascent science of epigenetics is revealing how environmental pressures can influence the genome of a developing embryo. There is plenty of evidence that the phenomena of evolution is real. However, how it happened is not as clear cut as the Neo-Darwinists would like everyone to believe.
