Playing devil's advocate, I wonder if it's possible that a short circuit off of household current may have been unknowingly introduced into the system. Perhaps the prototype is not adequately grounded. There's so much conductive water being splashed around that short circuits may be a distinct possibility. On top of that the prototype apparently takes several "initializations" before the system fires up successfully. Makes me suspicious.
