Yes, it is. no sane person will drive that fast, and nowhere in the US are you allowed to drive that fast. However, I believe that number is for tests conducted under ideal conditions on a level road. A car that is capable of 100 mph maximum on a level road will probably go much slower up a steep hill. It does make sense to have a car capable of going 80 or 90 mph even on a steep hill, because in rare instances you have to have that much speed to avoid an accident. In other words, I expect that any car safe to drive in the U.S. should be capable of 100 mph, but it should never actually be driven at that speed. My Geo Metro is certainly not capable of it and it is also not safe for highway speeds. On any kind of hill it can barely reach 65 mph and the traffic goes whizzing by it. - Jed
