No AC?!??!?! $240/yr in electricity? $20/mo??!? Holy $hit. No wonder people want to live in CA. Terry (whose electric bill was $348 last month) Most people in CA live close to the coast, where we have "natural AC", whether you want it or not. This is also known as fog. Do I need to quote Mark Twain about his coldest winter? We also have few insects, for the same reason. Most houses have lots of windows with no screens. Things are very different if you go 10 miles inland from the coast. The $240 they mention in the article is for one third - $750 per year which is about average unless you live far enough inland to need AC. Your bill in Georgia is probably on the low side for the South in summer, I would guess. Many people in Texas complain about $1000/month in the summer. Of course, there are "checks and balances" that keep most people where they are - such as: exorbitant real estate - a house here costs three times more than the same one would be in Texas, so everything balances out to a degree .... instead of paying the $1k power bill, you are paying off a high mortgage.
