Regrettably, the guy Obama calls out -- Moniz -- is one of the
outspoken enemies of cold fusion.
Win a few, lose a few. I don't think the enemies can stop cold
fusion; by the time they realize there is a risk, it will be over.
(And I don't care if it's "cold fusion" or merely "cold
some-other-kind-of-nuclear-reaction." The difference mattered at one
time, but, now, try to call it "low energy nuclear reactions" and the
critics accuse you of trying to cover up what it *really* is, i.e.,
the myth of cold fusion. There is no way to counter this until the
real myths are exploded. So there is no political gain in trying to
change the name, and, to a small degree, from what I've seen, it backfires.
I do support the change of name, by the way, of ICCF to ICCMNS, and
it's important that serious articles and reports not use the name
"cold fusion" except maybe at the beginning, to make it clear what
this connects with historically, but
(1) It probably is some kind of fusion.
(2) It might not be.
(3) Until we know what it is, who cares what it is called? Low Energy
Nuclear Reactions are just as much rejected as Cold Fusion and are
impossible for the same reasons (and also they are not impossible for
the same reasons).
(4) Krivit is technically correct, calling it "cold fusion" promotes
a theory of what it is that has not been proven. But he should be
telling this to the media and others who adopted the name twenty
years ago. It's too late.
Anyway, Jed, way to go. There is your poster, blog-photoed, with not
only the name lenr.org very visible, but also your text and, to boot,
an actual link to your site. You got the blogger's attention. Little
by little, Jed. Who put the poster up?
Slaps head! I actually didn't look at the name of the blogger. Duh! I
guess it wasn't so surprising. MIT? That's close to me.
