The Japanese health officials say it is much worse than seasonal flu. For
one thing, it is pandemic and closing many schools and offices at a time of
year when flu is usually rare. This was reported on NHK several times. I
have no other sources handy.

So many people have it, there are now waiting lines at Japanese clinics and
hospitals on weekends sometimes of an hour or more. It was the lead story
the other day. I have never heard of such a thing! For something like the
flu, a fracture, or a tetanus shot, you can walk in off the street anywhere
in Japan and see a doctor in 10 minutes.

(I waited 3 hours with a fractured wrist in a U.S. hospital in excruciating
pain. That is normal in the U.S. but in Japan the nurses would have been all
over me in 2 minutes.)

The situation is now getting under control, as vaccines are being
administered.
